- Hit or Miss 2008 - Battlefield: Bad Company

Every year is full of surprises. Some games come out of nowhere; selling millions of copies and getting showered with appraisal and Game of the Year nominations. Other games that are expected to succeed sometimes fall flat on their faces due to unfulfilled promises and lackluster gameplay. We at Gamervision love being right, and instead of doing boring, overdone previews we have come up with Hit or Miss 2008. A writer will explain a game, what has been announced and show any screenshots or videos that have been released for it, and then predict whether or not it will be a hit or a miss. How well will it sell? What will critics think? Well, we will tell you…
Game: Battlefield: Bad Company
Developer: Digital Illusions CE
Release Date: Late 2008

Battlefield: Bad Company is the newest addition to the massive Battlefield franchise, and will mark the series first real foray into the console world. The previous titles, which were always optimized for Windows PCs, focused on a robust multiplayer section and had little (or in some cases, no) single player campaigns. This new edition is turning that idea around, focusing on a fun story with co-operative play.
Several aspects of the game set it apart from other shooters coming out in 2008. Unlike most army games, Battlefield: Bad Company tells the tale of soldiers fighting for their own reasons. Overseas in a foreign war, a group of soldiers catch wind of a truck filled with gold somewhere on the battlefield. Putting their country aside, they decide that finding that truck and stealing the gold is a better purpose, and begin their search. The game’s plot, which is similar to the movie Three Kings, is supposed to be a comedic take on the normal war shooter. There will be an online component, allowing for 24 player battles and large, open levels.
Also new in this edition of Battlefield is a new engine focusing on destruction. Some reports are that nearly everything in the game can be destroyed, from walls to roofs to entire buildings. This will work into the gameplay by allowing gamers more freedom to do what they please.

Sales: I think the game will sell pretty well, likely selling over 100,000 copies in its first week for the Xbox 360 and near those numbers for both the PC and PS3 versions. For the year I would expect it gets near 1,000,000 copies sold depending on when it ends up being released.
Reviews: An average review score of an 8-8.5 wouldn't be unlikely, but that may be higher or lower depending on the co-operative portion of the game. A good online multiplayer could easily bump the title to a 9/10 and a lack of such could drop it to a 7.
Overall: I expect the game to be a hit. With the comedic nature and fun shooting that the Battlefield franchise is known for, expect to see many heads turned when the game comes out in late 2008.
