- Gears of War 2 Footage Online
- Posted 4 months, 4 weeks ago by Coop
As promised earlier this week, in-game footage of Gears of War 2 is now available for your eager eyes and it does not disappoint. Anyone worried that Gears 2 would just be more of the same from Epic can now sleep easier, as Cliffy B is here to make it all better.
The few minutes from this trailer show some of the new features that are sure to make the title the biggest Xbox title of the Holiday season. On top of the obvious graphical upgrade, the footage shows new gameplay elements and some features teased as part of the Unreal Engine 3.5 tech demo, with dozens of Locusts running on screen at once. Chainsaw duels are the button mash-a-thons we expected they would be, but I don't really have any complaints. The concept is cool enough for single player, as it adds some depth to the melee, but is obviously intended for the multiplayer portion of the game. Also shown in the trailer is something I hadn't heard about before: using enemies as a shield. I don't know exactly how much the Locusts respect their fellow kin, but if this is done well I think it fits the game. Gears of War is all about cover, right? Why not make your own?
Coming off of a GTA IV high it may be hard to appreciate anything that doesn't look as good, and Gears of War 2 is the first game to truly awe me since I finished the game. While other titles like Mirrors Edge have gotten me excited for their release, this trailer has set itself up alongside Fallout 3 as titles I cannot wait for this holiday season. Now Cliffy - stop buying silly shirts and hurry up with the game, I don't want to be waiting an extra few months to cut apart Locust because you were too busy acting erratic!
