- PS3 Firmware 2.4 Info Leaked
- Posted 5 months, 2 weeks ago by Coop
The Playstation 3 is a sexy console. It is quiet, sleek, and the interface, while a little barren, is nice and cool. The console runs quietly and has the best graphical capabilities of anything out now and it is even getting some nice exclusives in the near future. Sadly, it’s online program is an utter embarrassment and there are features that have become mandatory in todays gaming world that the system hasn’t even begun to adopt.
Gamers need to be able to chat with friends and access their friends list while in a game – that should be the bare minimum. As of now, this feature has not been implemented and the system has a very “last-generation” approach to an online service. It is free, and you get what you pay for.
Ray Maguire, chief of the UK division of Sony Computer Entertainment, has finally shed some light on when we can expect the Playstation 3 to more resemble the machine it was born to be.
“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I'd personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”
That is a semi-official response if I have ever seen one! This summer we may finally see the in-game XMB that we were promised several months ago. During the Somethingcast for last week we discuss how Sony does really not understand the outcry, and while they are making jokes about their lack of an XMB they really don’t get that the jokes are only funny if they actually deliver with something.
It would be like if Microsoft making Red Ring of Death shirts without trying to solve the issue or extend the warranty. Take your heads out of the sand, Sony, this is supposed to be the next-gen.
