- PS3 In-Game XMB on July 2
- Posted 6 months, 1 weeks ago by Coop
Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation 3 would be receiving an in-game XMB and trophies on July 2nd, 2008. An in-game XMB, of course, is the ability to pull up a universal menu from inside of PlayStation 3 games so that you can play custom music, access your friends list, and send messages without exiting the game. Below are two videos detailing the update, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog.
The games that will be using trophies at first are as follows:
- BUZZ! Quiz TV
- LittleBigPlanet
- MotorStorm Pacific Rift
- NBA 09 - PS3
- PAIN
- PixelJunk Eden
- Resistance 2
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
- Warhawk
Trophies for older games will not be retroactive, so be prepared to start games anew to get them. After messing with my PS3 more I enjoy the silent beast, and hope it eventually has more to play, so this news is really, really cool. That said, I don't feel like going out and buying a new headset or Dualshock 3, so I sort of liked my PlayStation 3 being in permanent hibernation. Gamervision will be sure to post our full impressions on July 2nd to see if it was worth the nearly two-year wait.

I would like to say I don't care about trophies, but I know myself: I'll be whoring for them in a week.
In-game XMB looks like a nice way to not only IM people, but also to quickly switch to other activities on the PS3. Trophies are neat, but I don't care about them too much.
