Gametrailers has an exclusive look at the new SOCOM game, SOCOM: Confrontation, which is due out later this year. The trailer doesn't do much to get me excited for the game, as it doesn't pack the graphical punch that I would think a PlayStation 3 exclusive should, and nothing about the video makes me think this will be any better than Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Reading more about it, the game looks like it will feature huge battles, a focus on team-play, and be available as a downloadable title and purchasable in stores, not unlike Warhawk.

Not only that, but Confrontation isn't actually a continuation of the series. Zipper Interactive (the developers behind the last three SOCOM games) is creating a "drastically different" SOCOM 4, which will come out next year. This all may sound confusing, and I'm sorry if I gave you a headache. Watch the video above, it does look pretty nice, and I think it comes with that nifty blue tooth headset that Sony showed off last week. If a sweet peripheral isn't incentive to pick up a game you won't play I don't know what is.
