Burnout Bikes
Posted 3 months, 2 weeks ago by Ninjapino

Alright, so Coop beat me to the news by about 26 minutes, but that's because, unlike him, I was actually playing it.  Shame on you, Coop.  Shame.

So, anyway, I just spent the last hour riding a motorcycle through the streets of Paradise city.  What can I say, it's a strangly different feel.  You start off with two bikes, without a single difference, that I at least noticed, in either or. The first thing that I noticed about the bikes is that you can't go up against cars.  Either that, or nobody online was using a car at the time because everyone was testing the bikes out.  Now that I think about it, I probably should have tried to hit the garage and seen if I could have switched.....  Probably not the best journalistic I should have been, but it's not like I'm getting paid for this.  (Are you guys hiring?)

I honestly don't even really see how bikes vs. cars would have even really worked.  The physics of the bikes feel vastly different.  Mainly, as Criterion kept boasting, the bikes are all about speed, while cars focus on stunts and crashing.  You don't have boost at all.  It feels a little odd at first, but makes sense once you get the hang of it.  There is simply no need for boost.  You can push forward on the analog to tuck and gain speed, which, obviously, reduces manuverability, and also push back to wheelie, which....umm....looks cool?

Burnout is already a very arcade-y game, but the bikes add a whole new level to it.  Again, while the cars about crashing and crazy stunts, the bikes make it feel more like an actual racer.  Mainly because you don't really ever crash.  Well, not like the cars, anyway.  Your bike never sees a dent.  If you hit a wall straight-on, you just disappear and re-appear next to where you were.  If you clip a car and crash, the rider disappears and you are treated to a short scene of the bike sliding on the concrete.

So far, pretty fun and it adds a whole different level to Burnout.  Criterion sure knows how to keep me coming back to this title and I hope they keep it up.  Again, I'm a little disappointed that you can't have car vs. bike races, but I'm not sure how well that would work out.  If they can figure it out, well, then they are smarter then I.  Then again.....they made this whole thing in the first place, so I guess that already makes them smarter then me....  Wait...damn it.....

That's pretty lame that when you crash you just disappear....I was thinking something monumental like the crashes in Road Rash were going to happen, you know fly through the air for 200 feet......
