- Video Games are Comfort?
- Posted 3 months, 1 weeks ago by QMarc80
Kotaku is a good source for many things you read on the internet, right? Well I just happened to be on my lunch time rounds of the internet and came across this article stating that, and I cite the title, Video Games Equal Comfort In Troubled Economic Times. This would lead someone to believe that video games are a good source of freedom from "Earthly woes" and other such things, right? That's what the title states.
"With gas prices rising and some of the nation's largest financial institutions in dire straits, more and more non-gamers are finding that video games are an excellent way to distract themselves from real-life issues. Anyone else find this slightly ironic? We're they just making fun of us for doing the same thing a couple years back?"
I took this part from the article to show that this is one of the reasons behind the casual gamer boom that we seem to be in right now.
The best parts of this boom is that we get both quality games and more people to frag online.

I find when i need a break from the real world i just slip into Midgar or another place in the "game world" to get away from life.
actually i'm pretty sure that entertainment industries often experience a boom when the economy is in a slump. as jimmy said, when times are bad people turn to forms of entertainment to make themselves feel better.
way to be a debbie downer, racoonacorn.
all entertainment is used as a comfort or an escape. why else do we watch television, go to movies, listen to music, or play games?
It's great to use games as a release, but you can't just ignore problems. A lot of people who use things as a pure escape are only cheating themselves. Their real life shit isn't going to straighten itself out - gotta take care of that and then relax with some games.
I always found it comforting to know that the guy's head I stuck a plasma grenade on would eventually blow up....
if im having a bad day or am procrastinating sleep only to wake up to another bad day, i love to zone out to some katamari. it's bright and pretty and i don't even have to think while i play.
then again, i end up having some reaaaaallllly weird dreams.
I always can drive down to Cluck N Bell for some chicken to save some gas, instead of going to Burger King: it's a lot cheaper, but not as filling....
i have always found video games to be comforting, they help me escape any issues i am having.
