Bio: I'm just your average eighteen-year-old enthusiast gamer with a loud, bombastic opinion. But I suppose my life's goal to be a games journalist triples the cynicism.
I grew up with Nintendo, but have since branched out to all sorts of gaming, from the FPS to the traditional puzzle.

The Five Gates to Harmony, or my five favorite games
|

|
1. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
|
details
|
The first game: Splendid. The second game: Perfection. Nintendo took a great concept and sent it to the moon (quite literally), making the combat deeper, the visuals sharper, and the writing wittier. I could spend hours talking about the writing in this game, but the references would fly over the heads of anyone who has yet to experience this game. Often overlooked, it remains my favorite.

I do not believe that a game can look better than Yoshi's Island. Who needs an HD display when you can have a hand-drawn virtual vacation? The game is just as refined as the storybook look, however, with a great balance of puzzles, egg-throwing combat, and assorted driving and flying adventures. And I've never played a game with a more memorable final boss.

The atmosphere is unmatched. I love the Metroid series for this moodiness, but I chose Prime over Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Fusion because it was my first Metroid. Sad, I know, but as soon as I experienced it I knew I had to play them all (and I did!). The control, although unorthodox, fits the game's mix of combat and exploration, a balance that few games can get right. Prime is one of the few games that I will consistently go back to play, just to experience Tallon IV another blissful time.

4. WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$
|
details
|
I love games that go against the established rules of what games are. WarioWare did exactly that, throwing the player into short tests of skill with little to no instruction. Though the followups arguably bested the original in terms of the minigames themselves, the way that the GBA debut melded everything together felt more organic. I keep this with my Lite whenever I travel for short bursts of pure insanity.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/ the Wind Waker
|
details
|
I cannot choose just one. Ocarina was my first Zelda and it taught me the way of the sword, while Wind Waker feels like magic whenever I put it in. If I was to pick one, I would choose Wind Waker because of how the style complements the world and the tone of Link's adventure, but nostalgia for Ocarina's charms keep me from doing so. Somehow combining these two games seems fitting; after all, they are the same legend, retold throughout the ages...

Page 162! 1-6-2! Well, that was as of when you posted that comment on the board. When do you think you'll be done with it? Time is something I'm going to have more [and less] of in the coming weeks.
no no i blame you. I would have been clueless to this if not for you
It could certainly do you no wrong. Gus Mastrapa was a journalism major and it definitely didn't crush his free spirit, from what I saw at the panel. Maybe you can wriggle a games column into your school's newspaper. ;)
Seattle is woefully far from my Southern California home as well, but I just had to blow my savings on SOMEthing before grad school. ;)
I wish I had had a clear vision for what I wanted out of a career, when I was your age. I'm sure you've heard this a lot, but you're very clear and well-spoken in your writing. It isn't often that a distinct voice comes across in text. I'd say you're on the right track already, if you're interested in being a journalist. Were you thinking of majoring in journalism in college?
why do you have to squash my dreams?
Thanks for the insightful comment, as well as the friend request!
I hope my run-down did the panel justice. Going on your profile and writing, I think you would have loved it. Were you at PAX this past weekend?
The book is good so far. Now that I have a lot of time between my classes I can get to read it more than I did even since I've had it about a week. Only mid-chapter two at the moment. Will be further tomorrow afternoon after I do some English homework in the library.
When are you supposed to be getting your copy of the book? I only really read the preface and a few pages in before I kept getting interrupted. For some reason it was busy here at the hotel at the wrong moments. I actually gave up trying to read it last night and will continue today/tonight. Good stuff, if only a few pages into it.
well i dont own a DS so i most likely will never play this but thanks for the insight, always interested to see what RPG's are good or not, never know when I might own a DS.
I don't mind how Square-Enix does their characters, I know they are whiny but I am used to them.
hey there thanks for the accept. How are you liking The World Ends With You?
Hey, mass message to all who were interested in the book club:
If you are still in, go to my profile and join the group I've created. I'll be putting a list of books in there shortly for us to vote on. I'm thinking friday, so if you aren't in by then, I'll have to assume you aren't interested anymore!
It's frowned upon, and we are told to use lots of purel, but it isn't too bad. ;)
Happy to hear you enjoy the Somethingcast! Tell all of your friends!
Yo! Whats up?
Wow! I haven't had a gaming session like that in quite some time. A vast majority of my time for the past year or so is spent either at work or with family. Now I'm adding school back into the mix. It was a horrid nine year sabbatical but I guess I had to learn I wasn't going anywhere sometime, right?
Oh, as for creating your fighter. What/who did you create? An already popular Kratos or someone else? Maybe just you?
Hey thanks for the add! Saw your comments and liked your opinions. Good stuff. I also like your Wii launch pic! What games are you really playing right now? Such stock answers in your profile.
Hey, don't forget about the Gamervision GTA IV event on Sunday night at 9:00, eastern time. Send me or any other GV staffers your Xbox Live Gamertag, and we'll invite you over. All of Gamervision looks forward to running you over and lighting you up with rockets!
