- Ubisoft Announces Shovelware
- Posted 7 months, 1 weeks ago by Sarah
At Ubidays 08 this week, major publisher Ubisoft unveiled a few upcoming titles, showing off the next installments in several of their popular franchises. Beyond Good & Evil 2? Good! Far Cry 2 and a new Prince of Persia? Neat! Man, Ubisoft makes some great games, don’t they? Oh, wait, I almost forgot about the real money-makers, Ubisoft’s bread and butter: shovelware!
Yes, for every stellar-looking title that Ubisoft announced, there was a mediocre one to go with it. Hey, Wii owners, how about some Babyz Party or Petz Dogz? Don’t forget, misspelling things on purpose makes you cool and popular! And DS fans, make sure you reserve your copies of Imagine Girl Band and My Secret World! Isn’t that just what every little girl wants out of life?
Ugh. I know Ubisoft isn’t the only publisher taking advantage of Nintendo’s popularity by mass-producing garbage, but they are a serious offender. What’s even more pathetic is that the Petz series is one of their biggest sellers. I guess this is what they meant when they said that first-person shooters were no longer viable. Rainbow Six Vegas? Not viable. Babies hanging out together? Totally viable! I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

cool
Seriously, I decided from now on to limit my ubisoft purchases until they decide to cut in the crap shovelware releases.
even though they do make some gems sometimes, I'm just sick of the general mentality when it comes to the Wii and DS.
So Ubisoft is now pretty much up there with EA in my book of publishers to avoid until their games are cheap, or available used.
