Jack Thompson Guilty of 27 Counts of Misconduct
Posted 7 months, 3 weeks ago by Sarah

If you are at all familiar with Florida lawyer Jack Thompson, you know that he is one of the most offensive, ridiculous, and delusional people ever to walk the earth. The so-called “number one enemy of gamers” has been facing plenty of legal trouble of his own over the past few months, and a judge has already forbidden him from filing any more lawsuits without the signature of another lawyer. Thompson has also recently been involved in a misconduct trial, with his own legal actions being examined by the Florida bar.

Despite facing disbarment and other legal troubles, Thompson has continued his misguided, histrionic crusade against video game violence. His recent achievements include writing an email addressed to the mother of Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick stating that her son is a promoter of pornography and violence, as well as continuing to make himself look like an ass in front of the Florida bar and the gamers of America during his drawn-out trial. It just seems as though for every legal problem that Jack faces, he acts less and less professional and more like a mentally unstable and completely pathetic excuse for a human being.

Now a judge has ruled Thompson guilty on 27 of his 31 charges of misconduct, which is not much of a surprise. Actually, to be completely honest, I’d be less surprised if Thompson had been found guilty on every count, and then some. Among the charges: "Knowingly making a false statement of material fact or law to a tribunal," "Using means that have no purpose other than to embarrass, delay, or burden a third person," "Engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation," and "Making statements that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to the truth or falsity concerning to the qualifications or integrity of a judge," according to Ars Technica.

It’s worth mentioning that GamePolitics has done an excellent job of covering the Jack Thompson case, as well as all of Thompson’s inappropriate and idiotic behavior. I’m just happy to see that gamers aren’t the only ones outraged by Jack Thompson and his ridiculous actions, and that it’s now in the hands of the legal system. Assuming the rest of the Florida bar has a firmer grasp on reality than Thompson does, perhaps it won’t be long before Thompson is legally silenced once and for all.

They should make a motivational poster with his face on it and put it up in all law schools. Something with his picture and these words "FAILURE: Don't be like this guy when you graduate"

Sadly, willfully uninformed news shows will still bring him on as a "game violence expert" or a "digital entertainment law expert" or, my favorite, "school shooting expert," and never mention his 27 guilty counts.

I can't wait until he's just one of those guys in a corner on Hardball. The SNL version, not the real thing.

Yeah, I know you're right, Sean. It's just nice to see that we're not the only ones who think this guy is a complete ass.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings: unless they actually put Jack behind bars (which I think is pretty unlikely) you've not heard the last of him. Whether or not he has a license to practice law, he will still grandstand, self-promote, take things out of context, and generally be the same jerk-off he's always been.

May all gamers rejoice that this has happened. Aside from the gamers' perspective I'm glad that a dishonest person is getting what they deserve.
