Jack Thompson Strikes Again!
Posted About 1 year ago by Sarah

We all know that Jack Thompson loves to sue people. He loves it like I love Maniac Mansion, Joe loves companion cubes, and Sean loves his iPhone. Even facing disbarment is not enough to stop him from finding another baseless lawsuit to get his name in print some more. With all the crazy nonsense he’s pulled over the years, I really thought that I was too jaded in regards to Mr. Thompson to ever be surprised again, but he’s found a way to pull it off. Well done, sir!

This time, he’s suing Omaha Police Chief Thomas Warren. Omaha was the recent site of tragedy, with a young man named Robert Hawkins going on a shooting spree in a mall that ended in his suicide. It has since been revealed that Hawkins was a disturbed young man with a history of mental instability. But Jack Thompson has other ideas. Shockingly enough, he wants to blame video games!

Okay, that part’s not really surprising. Mr. Thompson loves looking for an easy scapegoat as a means for him to collect some big money, and he sees video games as his golden ticket. According to him, this and many other senseless acts of mass violence can easily be explained by violent video games:

“Some of the Grand Theft Auto games, which are wildly popular among individuals such as Robert Hawkins, feature what are known as ‘mall rampages’ by which the player can rehearse, for hours on end, entering shopping malls and shooting at random individuals therein.”

Uh… sure. That’s really the point of GTA. That and killing as many cops as possible. Putting aside Thompson’s non-knowledge of the industry that he so often attacks, why is he suing the head of the Omaha police force? It’s not like he invented Grand Theft Auto. This is where it really gets sad and confusing. Jack Thompson requested, from the Omaha police, an inventory list of the items removed from the home of Robert Hawkins under a search warrant. He is ready and willing to find games to blame, and they won’t let him!

That’s right, in a reasonable and law-abiding move, Thomas Warren refused to give Thompson the list. Go, Thomas Warren! Thompson, who is blind to all things logical, claims that he legally has the right to see it under Nebraska law, even though this law clearly exempts police investigation files. Thompson claims that Warren’s refusal to release the list puts others at risk, although I have no idea how. It probably makes sense in the Bizarro World that Jack Thompson resides in.

This is just one stop along his master plan:

“I am… well on my way to destroying [GTA publisher] Take-Two.”

This man needs to make some serious New Year’s resolutions tonight. Number one: stop suing people. Number two: stop being a media whore. Number three: play a damn video game so that you stop sounding like an uninformed moron.

Jack Thompson is a waste of a human being....not to mention all the money he wastes tying up the court system with his quests of grandeur....
