- Wii Fit Sold Out Before Release Date
- Posted 6 months, 2 weeks ago by Sarah
There are only a few more weeks to go before Nintendo’s not-quite-a-game, not-quite-a-workout program, Wii Fit (complete with balance board), makes its way to stores in the U.S. I’ve had mine reserved for months, but if you’ve procrastinated in pre-ordering yours, or were hoping you could just pick it up on launch day, good luck. Despite Wii Fit not even being out yet, retailers are reporting that they are already sold out of the game.
Amazon.com has reported that due to the number of pre-orders it received for Wii Fit, the game is already out of stock, though they claim they are working having more when the game actually launches. As for GameStop, as of about a week ago, even reserve customers are no longer guaranteed to get Wii Fit on the first shipment.
Honestly, this does not come as a surprise to me. My experience in retail has taught me that these kinds of shortages should be expected for game that ships with a peripheral, since manufacturers can’t produce as many units as stand-alone games. Still, it seems like some people were taken aback that like the Wii itself, Wii Fit is going to sell like hotcakes. I’m just glad that reserving early really paid off for me this time.
UPDATE: A GameStop insider has informed us that the retailer has stopped taking reserves on Wii Fit entirely. Now you may be out of luck for even second and third shipments on this one.

Can't they just order more from the developer or is there only a set amount being released at first. It's funny how Nintendo is always playing catch-up when it comes to their products....
