Follow-up to Gears of War Announced
Posted 20 months ago by Sean

Gamers were rabid over Epic Games's most recent release Gears of War. Marcus Fenix and the Locusts fragged their way into the hearts and living rooms all over the world. And with a nearly unparalleled Xbox Live experience, Gears became the third best-selling game of 2006, despite a mid-November release date. But, as with all wildly popular games, everyone wanted to know when the sequel would be out.

More, more, we want more!

Well, the when is still up in the air, but Epic has finally confirmed what the follow-up will be. The Delta Squad will be laying down their lanyards and picking up, get this, golf clubs.

Does this really look like the get-up we want on Fenix?

Epic vice-president Mark Rein said "[w]e got an animator to make a golf swing for Marcus Fenix, and then a programmer took one of the Gears levels and added some mounds and stuff to make a course." They are claiming that the grenade launching mechanics will be used for the physics on the ball.

Bear in mind as you take this all in that Epic Games has a long history of practical joking. This isn't the first time a sequel has been announced by the company, so perhaps we should take this "confirmation" with a grain of salt. Still though, if its true, this might be an interesting follow-up to a great third-person shooter. Hell, any golf game has to be better than Super Swing Golf.

Goddamn it! Where's the Hammer of Dawn when you need it?!
