Every once in a great while a story comes along about the junction of music and gaming that get me excited. When they added the Pixies' Doolittle to Rock Band DLC, I got excited. When I saw the first shots of the DS Guitar Hero controller, I got excited, tinged with a bit of hesitance. And then there are stories like this one...

EA has announced the soundtrack for the inevitable gajillion-selling Madden NFL '09. Some of the artists featured are worth getting excited about, namely Franz Ferdinand, Busta Rhymes and The Offspring. Then there are others than I'm pretty sure EA added just to make me feel old, like Senses Fall, Hollywood Undead, and Kidz in the Hall (interesting side-note: not the comedians, but musicians with the same [albiet misspelled] name.) Oh yeah, and Good Charlotte is there too. Woot?

Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing for EA, said of this year's selections, "Madden NFL revolutionized the industry by making music of multiple genres – from both established acts and brand-new artists – an essential emotional component of the videogame experience and the NFL season itself. This 20th Anniversary Edition soundtrack celebrates that legacy like never before, complete with marketing events that take the excitement to a whole new level. Not only have we changed the gaming culture forever, we continue to move the needle musically for millions of people around the world. Madden NFL will always be recognized as the game that made the music matter in videogames."

He may or may not be overstating the case. I'll let you be the judge. Here's the full list:
