Import retailers can't keep up with demand for Dual Shock 3
Posted 11 months, 1 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson

On November 11th, Sony will release their new Dual-Shock 3 controller in Japan.  Apparently, the demand in the States for the reworked PS3 controller is so great that import retailers have already sold out of their expected supply.  When the controllers are released in the western market next spring, they should retail at around $40-$50, but American gamers are lining up to buy them early at an $80 price point.

Shake, shake, shake, senora!

Evidently, we just aren’t getting it.  C’mon people, don’t you remember when Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide president Phil Harrison was nice enough to tell us that “Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature.”  Maybe folks are buying the controller for nostalgia.  Regardless, it seems just a bit on the foolish side to pay a premium to become an early adopter when there is really only one PS3 game (Resistance: Fall of Man was recently patched in anticipation of the rumble feature) that will support it.

Has anyone actually tried one of these? I guess I must be one of those foolish folks because I have one on order from Play Asia. I read the reviews that said the controller overall had a better feel, I like the white color and I needed an extra controller so why not splurge. Also, I think some games may have been updated because I bought this based on the fact that I noticed some of the games I have do support it. The other thing is if you play PS2 games on your PS3, and I do, then having the rumble is nice as well. I don’t think it alone is an amazing feature or deal breaker but combined with the other elements its makes for a richer multi-sensory experience. Did I mention it's white? :)

I'm pretty sure it will make the battery deplete faster so heres to hoping for a bigger battery.

Will the controllers batteries be depleted faster because of the rumble feature???

I don't quite understand what is so great about the rumble feature anyway. If it isn't already in a game, I'm not going to miss it if it just so happens to be absent.

seriously? paying almost double for a controller that what, weighs more at the moment? you know rumble isn't useful unless it's in the game.
