- What Are You Playing This Week?
- Posted 3 months, 1 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson
Not sure if anyone noticed, but I was on vacation all last week in North Carolina. The Outer Banks are absolutely gorgeous in early Summer, and we were lucky enough to stay in a gorgeous, 9-room beachfront house (free of charge, mind you) with my family. Of course, none of you care about me spending a week on a deck drinking gin and tonics; all you care about is what I played (and if you don’t care about that, then why exactly are you here?) Turns out that a week of doing nothing is very conducive to looooong sessions of Final Fantasy I (via Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls for the GBA.) I’m about 22 hours into the game, and, due to excessively diligent level grinding, I’m about 15 levels ahead of where I should be at this point in the story. This means that even the bosses I’ve been fighting can’t last more than a couple of rounds against my steroid-powered warrior, monk, red mage and white mage. Lots of pressing "A". Lots.
This week, I’ll try to unlock a few more crystals, but my time will be split with some new games and some that I somehow missed the first time around. Ever since the days of the Dreamcast, I’ve been waiting for a tennis game to eclipse the sublime Virtua Tennis. Newer games may look prettier and have more features, but in my book, the simple mechanics of the original VT remain unsurpassed. The newest contender is Top Spin 3, for the 360, and while the character creator and dynamic weather system are intriguing, I’m worried about the overly complex game controls that Top Spin is known for.
Much like most Americans, I do love shooting people, so I will be playing Battlefield: Bad Company this week as well. I was in the Beta test, and got to play a lot of the multiplayer mode, which is excellent, and got a taste of the surprisingly fun and fleshed-out (if a bit silly) single-player campaign last night, so I’m thoroughly jacked about DICE’s latest offering.
This weekend, I picked up a couple of recent classics that I have yet to play through: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Bioshock. I know, I know; the fact that I haven’t seen everything that Hyrule and Rapture have to offer is something of a sin for a gamer, but at least I’m working on my problem. Of course, it may take me a couple of months to get through them, as I have yet to finish Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy XII, GTA 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Dead Rising, etc, etc, etc…
I’ll tell you what I won’t be playing this week; The Incredible Hulk. Sega’s newest version of the jade giant is, no pun intended, something of an abomination. The Hulk character model looks okay, but the game’s draw distance is embarrassingly bad and the backgrounds look like those in an N64 game. I’ll stick with Ultimate Destruction.
So what are you playing this week?

Drake's Fortune, GH: Aerosmith, Hot Shots PSP and some FF:VII.
I played some Garry's Mod today, but not for too long. I played Killzone Liberation for about a whole 10 hour ride too. I'll be playing Burnout, Bad Company, and Grid when I get home. I also got Tales of Symphonia Knight of Ratatosk which is all Japanese, but just as much fun as the original.
Working on GTA IV. I know I should've finished it long ago. Don't judge me! Also playing Animal Crossing Wild World, like usual, and Space INvaders Extreme for PSP. Oh, and Burnout Paradise.
Final Fantasy X, Operation Darkness (going to start that today, I'm hoping to really enjoy it), more Hot Shots Golf, and whatever Throwback game I decide to throw in this week.
I thought on getting Soul Calibur on XBLA, but IGN's Review said it didn't have mission mode and online play...
On the other hand, xbox.com says 8 play mode, 2 players (in orange rectangle, so technically live)
And the official japanese Namco site list Mission Battle as a game mode, and Internet Play..... so..... why so many conflicting infos
Battlefield, NHL 08, and I think I am going to throw GRID
on the Gamefly account
New FFT is the jam. A little Wall-E and Etrian Odyssey 2. My DS is getting a workout.
More Halo 3 and GTA IV. Oh, and FFTA2. I really need to get BioShock one of these days...
Battlefield, GRID, and finishing up Lego Indiana Jones.
I do have to take you to task for calling the Battlefield multi-player "excellent". It is anything but.
