Activision Announces Q3 Earnings, 2008 Projects
Posted 8 months ago by Veggie Jackson

Newly crowned kings of the universe, Activision, has proudly announced its Q3 numbers as well as a good portion of its 2008 offerings, and things are going just swimmingly.  On the strength of Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Activision posted $1.48 billion in net revenue, up from $824.3 million last year, and $272.2 million in total profits, up from $142.8 million in Q3 2006.  This brings the year’s totals to $2.3 billion in revenue and $300.7 million in profits, increases of 92% and 200%, respectively.

The excitement doesn’t end with record-breaking numbers, though.   Activision also announced some of their upcoming titles for 2008.  On the docket:

- Several Guitar Hero follow-ups, including a proper sequel, Guitar Hero 4, in the fall.
- Movie tie-ins for Dreamworks’ Kung-Fu Panda and Madagascar 2, as well as the upcoming James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace.
- A sequel to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, as well as a new Spider-Man game.
- New iterations in the Call of Duty and Tony Hawk series.

Tony Hawk, Call of Duty and Guitar Hero sequels were kind of a given, as are the movie tie-ins, but this is the first we’ve heard of a Marvel: Ultimate Alliance sequel, and I, for one, am in the midst of a nerdgasm about the news.  2008 looks to be another banner year for Activision, given this slate of games.  Good news for Activision, good news for us, good news for the banner industry.
