- Burnout Paradise Coming to PSN

First, we had Nintendo’s Virtual Console which delivered full versions of classic games on a new console. Then the Xbox 360 brought us Xbox classics, featuring versions of games originally published for Microsoft’s previous console downloadable for play on its current one. So, with the distant and recent past spoken for, what can Sony do to match this? How about making their current console’s retail games available for download?
It’s not yet truly a system, like Virtual Console or Xbox Originals, but Sony has made a move that could lead to one that trumps either of the competitors. The hit PS3 racing title, Burnout Paradise, will be available for download through the PlayStation Network this Fall for the entirely reasonable price of $29.99. It just so happens that $29.99 is the same exact price Gamestop sells it at. Weird, huh?
Details beyond this have been nonexistent, so we have no idea if they plan on offering more PS3 titles this way, but if there’s one thing I love, it’s wild speculation. So let’s see how this could affect the video game market in general; Sony begins a service that provides downloadable versions of slightly dated PS3 games that have cooled off in retail. It’s successful, so Nintendo one-ups them, making brand new titles available by download on the same day and at the same price as the retail versions. Microsoft doesn’t want to be left behind, so they stop selling games at retail altogether, making all their titles downloadable. This pushes Sony to do the unthinkable; sell downloadable games before they even exist. This, of course, causes a tear in the space-time continuum that quickly spreads, eventually unmaking reality as we know it. The only thing left standing? The DS.

All I want to say is that if they want people to pay full price for a title they might as well just advertise it on television and then let people just go to the store. It'll take forever to download anyway. A full game like this, anyway.
If you think about it, yeah they save on physical materials, but they also have to pay for servers to put the game files. And those servers need to be available 24/7 so your product is constantly ready for downloading and re-downloading.
I mean, I'm not sure of the cost differences, but that sounds like a slightly expensive operation.
its surprising how quickly some games drop in price. Assassins Creed was another one that dropped in price fairly soon after release.
I have to agree with the whole five dollar difference point. If you don't receive the instructions or box you shouldn't pay full price. On another note I can't believe Burnout Paradise already dropped to 29 bucks.....
Shipping and packaging should most definitely be a change in price. I agree with Voyou San completely. Why have to pay the same price as in the store when you don't have the game disc?
If Sony really wants to make this work, make the downloadable copy cheaper than the in-store version. Not by a lot i mean, just like a 5 buck difference.
