- Dead Rising Copyright Case Dismissed
- Posted About 1 month ago by Veggie Jackson

Back in February, it was announced that the MKR Group, owners of the copyright to George Romero’s series of Dead films, and New Line Cinema would be bringing a lawsuit against Capcom for their zombies-in-a-mall title, Dead Rising, claiming that the game’s content was too similar to the Romero films. Today, a judge has dismissed that case. Despite the judge rejecting all of the many zombie movies and games that Capcom brought forth to show the generic nature of the subject matter, the game was found to contain “profound differences,” and the case was thrown out.
This is good news for fans of the game, because it clears the way for Capcom to create a sequel. Dead Rising was an amazing, but flawed game, and I’d love to see what Capcom could do with the benefit of hindsight and a better understanding of the current generation’s hardware. If they could throw hundreds of zombies at you back in 2006, just imagine the kind of chaos they could create now. And hey, maybe we’ll find out the final fate of Otis. Personally, I hope he was eaten. By zombies.
