Fallout 3 To Have Over 200 Endings?
Posted 9 months, 2 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson

The Official Xbox Magazine Podcast is one of the better gaming podcasts out there.  They always get big-time developers to talk about their upcoming games, and manage to maintain a fun, informative format. This week’s episode featured Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Software, speaking about the upcoming apocalyptic first-person RPG, Fallout 3.  In addition to dropping some very cool info about the game, such as the fact that the game is at least twice the size of its original conception and some new details about Dogmeat, the game’s protagonist’s pet, Howard stated that the game has gone from having a whopping 12 different endings to having a WHIZZOPPING 240!

How exactly will they manage to include hundreds of endings?  No idea, but it’s Bethesda, so I’ll have to keep the faith.  They haven’t let me down yet, so I have no reason to call shenanigans on this bit of info.  The podcast also mentions that the game will take about 40 hours to complete.  Quick math here, but I’m pretty sure that 240 endings times 40 hours each equals NO LIFE.  I’m married, so that’s not much of a change for me, but the impending divorce will probably be traumatic.  If I pull myself away from Fallout 3 long enough to notice.

Like I keep saying.

If it's better than that abomination that was Oblivion, I will be quite, quite pleased.

He is probably counting the Morrowind-like error screens of "You have killed a major plot character, the game cannot be completed. Would you like to continue?" As endings. I can see those popping up 200+ times.
