- PlayStation Home Intergration Details
- Posted 10 months, 2 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson
Since its announcement last March, Sony’s Home service, a virtual social network operating over the Playstation Network, has been the subject of much apathy and disinterest. Sure, there’s the ability to show pornos on your in-home TV, then invite unsuspecting friends over, but other than that, it looked like Sony was creating a new, better looking Second Life.
New details have surfaced, however, that show that this Home thing might just be worth a second look. From the get-go, Sony has promised integration with upcoming titles, but until now, we’ve seen very little in the way of examples of this. Kotaku, however, is reporting that at least three major games will be utilizing the service in some interesting, possibly even revolutionary ways. Here’s the rundown:
Resistance: Fall of Man – Home’s Resistance portal will not only allow you to see previously undiscovered areas in the game world using your Home avatar, but will also give access to intercepted radio transmissions between US and European forces, fleshing out the game’s backstory.
Drake’s Fortune – Much like Resistance’s lobby, Drake’s will allow you to explore the game’s lush, tropical island setting without all those pesky people trying to kill you. In addition, the portal will feature a 2D, side scrolling mini-game that’s being described as a cross between Contra and the underappreciated Out Of This World.
Warhawk – Probably the most intriguing example of integration, Warhawk’s lobby will be a kind of briefing room, allowing you and your team to plan out battles on a 3D model of the battlefield. Players will be able to use virtual “army men” to plot out their attack strategies before executing them in the game. No word yet on whether or not this will include mini Warhawks, jeeps and tanks or not, but logic suggests that these will be included.
Home’s sounding pretty cool now, huh? The Warhawk functionality especially, if executed well, could be a very cool innovation that could become a standard for shooters on the PS3. One wonders if chaotic fragfest that is Warhawk is the best game to use this feature, but if it paves the way for games like Rainbow Six and GRAW to use similar techniques, then I’m all for it.

I am beta testing this very fun and I am helping to make home better win win
The integration for Warhawk sounds interesting. I kind of wish Live would do something like that for the 360.
I can't wait for this stuff. Sony is really teasing hard this year. Show us something soon please.
