- So Who’s Gonna Publish Brutal Legend
- Posted 3 months, 1 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson
After Activision Blizzard announced that they would not be publishing Tim Schafer’s action title, Brutal Legend, a lot of people wondered where exactly the game, which features the voice of Jack Black as the main character, would end up. With its hard-rock theme, the title seemed like a perfect fit at MTV Games, but they politely declined, wishing the game nothing but good luck. Schafer’s last publisher, Majesco (Psychonauts), has fallen out of the premium console software market, so they’re definitely a no-go as well. With each lost publishing opportunity, Schafer's promise that the game would "be fine" is looking less and less realistic.
So who has the guts, the vision, the testicular fortitude to publish a title that’s bound to rock as hard as Brutal Legend will? Rumors are beginning to fly that EA will be picking up the title, but those are just rumors for now. Given the involvement of Hollywood star Jack Black and video game semi-star Tim Schafer, it seems nigh-impossible that the game will simply not be picked up, so where do you think the game will end up? More importantly, where SHOULD it end up? Even more importantly, do you care, or are you more concerned about the fate of the Ghostbusters game?

Perhaps Valve will come in on this and do a Steam distro, prompting a more console oriented publisher to pick it up. Or maybe they'll put out the console version as well. Valve were the first one's to pick up Psychonauts for digital distro, if I'm not mistaken (and I may well be), so at least Double Fine has a relationship with them already.
Also, Valve are clearly videogame superheroes. If anyone could see quality in this project it would be them.
What I don't understand about Ghostbusters is that, well, it's done, right? It's also been hyped and promoted pretty well for a long time. Also, with the game coming out on all consoles and with everything done, what's there to lose? They just need to ship it for the most part! I mean how do you delay a game with Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Hudson all involved and acting in it. Seems like a no brainer to me.
As for Brutal Legend, if I were a publisher and I saw that photo it would be a done deal. Just that photo.

I forgot that you have a 360, and not a PS3. Sorry for that speculation. Although it would suck for quite a bit of gamers in general.
Don't even mention Sony exclusive for Ghostbusters.....NOOOOOO......
Sony will swoop in, publish this, along with ghostbusters as exclusives.. i call it now :)
Maybe Ubi-Soft would be so kind as to lend a helping hand.
I don't care WHERE it ends up, as long as it finds a capable publisher, ASAP-style. Hopefully one that will do a better job promoting the game than Majesco did with Psychonauts.
Cant really say i care too much about the game, though I am sure that someone will pick it up. I have seen the rumor's about EA and I can't say I am too thrilled about that, EA is very hit or miss. Sometimes they care and the game is good, other times they seem to not give a shit and the game sucks. We will see, I am sure EA or someone like that will pick this up.
