Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 in Japan
Posted 3 months, 1 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson

It’s been a crazy week full of unlikely events.  First, a man claims to have the corpse of a sasquatch in his freezer.  Then, archaeologists discover a cave that the Mayans believed was a portal to the netherworld.  Now, in the strangest, most unlikely news of the week, the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 in Japan!  Now before you go diving into a fallout shelter in anticipation of the coming apocalypse, understand that there’s a perfectly good reason that the 360, normally as desirable in Japan as whale meat, outsold the PS3; Tales of Vesperia launched this week, and is exclusive to the 360.  The RPG helped move 25,000 units the week of August 10, almost five times last week’s total of 5,359, as compared to the PS3’s 9,673.  The Wii once again made all of these numbers irrelevant with their 35,000 units.

Now, anyone who’s thinking that this could lead to the Japanese gaming market accepting the American console, don’t get your hopes up.  This sort of anomaly happens every so often when the 360 has an exclusive that appeals to the Japanese market.  It happened with Ace Combat 6, and it’s bound to happen again whenever Square Enix or Namco Bandai end up with another exclusive for Microsoft.  In between, though, we can expect more of the same disappointing sales numbers on a week to week basis.

Tales of Vesperia arrives on American shores August 26.  Perhaps it will help with the 360’s sagging American sales numbers as well.  Probably not, though.

I saw the announcement earlier today. Exciting times. Now all that needs to happen is a few good JRPG's and we'll all be set. I mean, other than those already known.

i figure the sales will go back to normal next month.. Good for 360 though, Vesperia definitely looks to be a good game, as we have come to expect from the Tales series of games.
