Edward Carnby, "The Supernatural Detective," is called to the ghost town Slaughter Gulch to find a missing film crew. It turns out that the missing film crew is the least of his problems, as Slaughter Gulch is haunted by the ghosts of gunslingers, townspeople, and other characters who don't take kindly to being disturbed.

The animated Alone in the Dark 3 is played from the same third-person perspective as its predecessors and includes puzzle solving, timing, and combat survival against in-game protagonists.
