Description taken from Arcade version of this game

Asteroids was also one of the most commercially successful video games of all time, grossing more than a billion dollars worth of quarters. Control a little wedge-shaped ship that flies in all directions while shooting and dodging asteroids. When you hit a large or medium-sized asteroid, it breaks into smaller, faster-moving pieces. After destroying all the asteroids, a new wave appears. Your primary goal in Asteroids is to stay alive as long as possible while racking up points by blasting everything in sight. For every 10,000 points you score, you get an extra ship. The game ends only when you are out of ships. From time to time, one of two different flying saucers appears to shoot at you. So, blast a saucer to get extra points. In addition, at any time during the game, you can warp into hyperspace with the simple press of a button that makes your ship vanish and reappear on another part of the screen randomly chosen by the computer. Asteroids was created using vector graphics with ships, saucers, and asteroids white line-drawings on a black background. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
