The first combination video game/pinball machine from Bally Midway (and the second of three ever produced by any company), Baby Pac-Man puts you in familiar territory in the video portion of the game. You control Baby Pac-Man in a Pac-Man-like maze, gobbling dots and fruit while avoiding ghosts. Some of the ghosts are faster and smarter than any of those found in Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man.
While playing the video segment of this game, you'll notice that there are no power pellets on screen when the action begins. As Pac-fans know, these pellets when eaten are used for temporarily energizing your character and making the ghosts vulnerable to attack. This brings us to the pinball portion of the game, which you enter every time you go through one of the bottom tunnels. Here you can earn power pellets by spelling "PACMAN" or by hitting the loop ball that resides behind the drop targets at the top of the playfield.
Other feats you can achieve in the pinball game include advancing the fruit that is displayed on the level (by spelling "FRUITS") and increasing the speed of Baby Pac-Man as he runs through the two side exits (with "TUNNEL"). When you lose a ball in the pinball section, play returns to the video mode. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
