While not as good as its NES counterpart (which shares the same name, but is not the same game), Batman: The Video Game for the Genesis is an enjoyable title that follows the storyline (more or less) of the record-breaking Batman film from 1989. (Players can even knock Jack into the vat of chemicals). The punch-and-kick action is pretty basic, but well-placed grappling hook strategies and tricky platforming add depth and challenge to the game. Batman's arsenal is limited to Batarangs, but they are fun and effective to use, and fun side-scrolling shooter levels (featuring the Batmobile and the Batwing) break up the action nicely. The game is shorter than average, and the sound effects are largely ineffectual, but the cut-scenes (and, to a lesser extent, the graphics) evoke the film, and the music, though not patterned after Danny Elfman's original score, is Bat-tastic. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
