Big Kahuna Words is a puzzle game set under the azure waters of Hawaii and Polynesia. Players earn points by fashioning words out of a random pattern of letters, and level advancement occurs when gamers destroy all the stone game squares in one pattern. Longer words result in higher scores, and each level has a special word that, if spelled, provides an added bonus. Stumped wordsmiths can swap one pair of letters at any time or use the "volcano" function to get an entirely new set of letters.
Specialty squares abound, including wild card squares that can serve as any letter of the alphabet, locked squares that cannot be swapped or replaced, and explosive squares that blow up surrounding letters. Words must be at least three letters long, and despite the ocean theme, sailor-style foul language is not accepted. Level advancement unlocks a number of exotic sea creatures, which then float around a handful of reefs that serve as both menus in between levels and a screensaver. Big Kahuna Words comes with 150 levels, but online level add-ons and a built in level editor provide significantly more gameplay.
The "2007 Special Edition" comes with a selection of other word puzzle games including "Word Buzz Gold," "Puzzle Word & Word Juice," and "Fruity Garden." ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide
