Bomberman '94 is Hudson Soft's sequel to Bomberman '93. It features a character named Bomberman who can lay bombs that explode after a certain amount of time. These bombs can be used to destroy blocks and enemies. Sometimes destroyed blocks leave behind items for Bomberman to collect. If Bomberman is caught in a bomb blast, he dies.
Bomberman '94 has two game modes. The first is a quest mode where players must guide Bomberman through several series of stages. In each stage, all the pillar switches must be bombed before players can proceed. Each series of stages ends with a boss stage, and Bomberman must defeat the boss before going to the next stage. In the game's battle mode, up to five players can compete against each other. If there are less than five players, the CPU can be set to control the others. The goal of battle mode is simply to be the last Bomberman left standing.
Bomberman can pick up a variety of special items to help him in his fight. Bomb icons allow him to lay more bombs simultaneously, while fire icons extend the range of his bomb blasts. Those are, by far, the two most common items uncovered through bombing blocks. Other items include protective vests, 1-ups, and the ability to kick bombs. Occasionally, a bomb blasts will uncover an egg. When Bomberman walks over the egg, it hatches into a kangaroo he can ride. There are five types of kangaroos, each with a special power. In addition to their power, kangaroos also act as shields, protecting Bomberman from one blast. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
