As Bomb Jack, a caped-crusader of unknown origin, it's your job to defuse all the bombs in each level, while avoiding the many nasty denizens you encounter. "Levels" are in actuality just a single static screen with various platforms strewn about. While your character can't fly per se, he can jump incredibly high, allowing him to move around the screen with veritable ease.
Things aren't quite that simple, though, since advancement brings on ever-increasing numbers of enemies that run the gamut from flying bird-like robots to more menacing beasts. If you're touched by any of them, you lose a life, and losing all your lives ends the game. Extra lives are earned by reaching set score intervals, as well as by picking up coins which appear randomly on the screen from time to time. Power balls appear on rare occasions, that, when touched, freeze all the enemies on the screen, granting a brief respite from the constant onslaught.
Bombs can be collected in any order, but collecting them in a predetermined order (indicated by the next correct bomb flashing red) increases scoring dramatically. Backdrops range from the Sphinx in Egypt to the bright lights of the city, though they don't affect gameplay in any way. ~ Gavin Frankle, All Game Guide
