In Medieval France, the King is dead. You are a local lord who hopes to take his place upon the throne. To this end you must consolidate your hold upon the surrounding territories, either conquering or using diplomacy to get the other lords to follow you. While doing this, you must also pacify the church and the Pope.
You must fight the troops protecting other territories to add them to your own, and recruit swordsmen, archers and knights. But the heart of the game is Castle building. They are expensive to build, but nothing in the game makes as much difference between winning and losing as the presence of castles in your realm.
In addition to the running of your kingdom, you can take part in subplots, including rebels in the forest, aligning yourself with dark men from the forest and sending off a mission to seek the legendary Prester John. Each can benefit your nascent kingdom... if you make the correct choices.
The game plays instrumental, medieval style music as you play and it can really put you in the mood as you spy on the surrounding lands, police your realm, send diplomats and in general, act like any medieval ruler. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
