A fairly accurate version of the arcade classic, the Apple II edition of Defender offers three difficulty levels and the option to use either keyboard controls or joystick. Sound effects are minimal --- explosions and some beeping sounds to alert you to an alien's mutation into a more dangerous form --- but the graphics are fairly close to the original. The default "regular" difficulty level isn't quite up to the toughness of the arcade version, while the "hard" level is even more nerve-wrackingly fast than the coin-op. Overall, one of the better ports of Defender at the time it was released. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
