Considered by many to be a genre-initiating game, Descent took the successful first-person 3D formula, popularized previously by Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, and created an environment where true freedom of movement was possible.

The game begins deep below the surface of Lunar Base I where an unknown alien race has taken over the chasm of the Post-Terran Mining Corporation. Manning your spacecraft, the object of the game is to navigate through mine shafts, twist around never-ending tunnels and fight your way past robotic menaces in an environment that's honestly 360° 3D. With some truly mind boggling level design, you'll find yourself unable to differentiate top from bottom.

This strong gameplay dynamic, combined with a robust set of multiplayer gaming options, propelled Descent into millions of offices an internet sessions around the world. There are well over ten versions of the original PC game and, in particular, the Macintosh version was considered to be of the most faithful to the original. Descent's features and gameplay continued to live on in such games as Forsaken and Adrenix. ~ Paul Biondich, All Game Guide
