The second Arcade release based on Disney's Tron, a science fiction adventure film that takes place inside a videogame, Discs of Tron pits you as Tron against the evil Sark. When the game begins, you appear in the foreground with your back to the screen. Sark faces you from the opposite side of the screen. You are armed with three flying discs, which act as boomerangs, and you must de-rezz Sark by hitting him twice with one of the discs; Sark can throw discs at you as well. Both characters must keep their balance on one or more giant discs that are suspended in midair.
In addition to discs, Sark can hurl Seekers, which are homing devices that chase Tron until they run out of energy, and energy pellets, which split into three missiles after passing the center of the arena. Tron can throw discs at Sark's weapons in order to destroy them.
Tron's only weapons are the three discs, but he is equipped with a deflector shield, which when activated protects him from enemy discs and Seekers. Energy pellets will pass right through the shield.
In Discs of Tron there are 12 stages of disc-throwing, projectile-avoiding action. Advanced levels include obstacles that must be shot around, scrolling walls and multi-level floor discs. The game is 3D in appearance and is played out against a computer city background. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
