The first coin-operated video game debuted exclusively at Stanford University in September 1971. Galaxy Game (based on the computer mainframe title, Spacewar!) has players guiding a vessel through space by using joysticks and buttons to control thrust, rotation, and missile fire. The object in Galaxy Game is to eliminate two flying saucers before they shoot down your spacecraft. Each game consists of 90 seconds of play time, at a cost of ten cents, with points earned for each successful hit. Score higher than the enemy to continue the action for an additional 90 seconds. Two cabinet versions of Galaxy Game were produced for the Stanford community: a two-player standalone unit and twin consoles powered by the same PDP-11 minicomputer. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
