In this two-player-only game, two Old West gunfighters face off against each other from opposite sides of the screen. Each player controls the movements of one gunfighter, who can move freely throughout their half of the screen. By moving the joystick while holding down the fire button, you can aim your gun. Releasing the fire button shoots off one round at your opponent. You have unlimited ammunition.
You earn one point for each time you shoot your opponent. The first player to ten points wins the game.
Depending on the game variation selected, the gunfighters may have to deal with obstacles like cacti and moving stagecoaches. In some of the variations, the guns' bullets can blow through obstacles on the screen.
Although there are no computer opponents in Gunslinger, a few one-player practice games are included, in which you shoot at stationary and moving bulls-eyes.
