Mount an ostrich, hoist a lance and prepare to battle against the evil Buzzard Riders in Joust for the Atari ST. You are a bird-borne Knight, fighting alone or with a friend against hoards of Hunters, Shadow Lords and Bounders. The winner of a jousting match is the rider whose mount is highest at the moment of contact. To clear a level, you must win several jousting matches as there are many enemies flying around the screen. The levels consist primarily of non-scrolling screens littered with rock-like, suspended ledges (platforms).

If you lose a joust, you lose a life. If the enemy loses a joust, his riderless mount lays an egg. If you don't pick up the egg within a short period of time, it will hatch into an even more powerful opponent. Sometimes an egg will simply fall into and fry in the lava pit at the bottom of the screen.

Occasionally, a pterodactyl will fly onto the playfield and try to eat you. You can attempt to lance this fast-moving creature in the mouth, or you can avoid it altogether. Beginning in the fourth level, a Lava Troll will appear beneath the lowest ledge of the Lava Pits. If you get too close to the pits, a fiery hand will reach out and pull you toward the deadly lava. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
