Tetris is an action puzzle Arcade title created by the Russian designer Alexey Pajitnov, which explains the proliferation of Russian-style buildings and music in the game. The goal of the game is to place differently shaped pieces in a stack and complete rows which vanish and leave room to fit in more blocks. The pieces, which each consist of four blocks and range from a square to a line to ones with odd angles, can be rotated left or right to fit into the pile. Removing four lines at once is called a "tetris."

Clearing all the pieces from the screen finishes the round and takes the player to the next one, where the blocks fall faster and there are sometimes pieces already placed at the bottom of the screen. The game is over when the pile of blocks reaches the top and no more pieces can be fit in. Two players can play competitively on the same screen. ~ Brad Cook, All Game Guide
