Tengen's version of Russia's popular puzzle game is loosely based on parent company Atari Games' coin-op title released in 1988. The play mechanics involve manipulating seven continuously falling, block-shaped pieces to create horizontal lines. Completing rows earns players points, with a bonus awarded for clearing four horizontal lines at once. The game ends if the blocks reach the screen's top, preventing further movement. In addition to the single-player game, Tengen's Tetris includes two-player simultaneous support. Friends can compete against each other via split-screen display, or they can work together on the same screen in a cooperative mode featuring two falling blocks instead of one. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
