USA Bass Championship features two modes of play: Free Play and Tournament. In an unusual twist, Free Play focuses on boat racing instead of fishing. Players must navigate their boat through obstacle courses filled with ramps to zip across and bridges to jump over. Tournament Mode, the heart of the game, has users entering a bass fishing competition spanning multiple events.

Virtual fishermen will have to outwit a series of computer opponents as they search for the best spots to find fish and make use of multiple casting techniques. Finding a hot spot will take some degree of skill, as the fish will change locations based on underwater structures and their reactions to other fish. Choosing the correct lure is also important, as each fish reacts to a lure differently.
