Vertical Scrolling Shooter
Style
Games of this style put the player in control of a character or vehicle that moves up or down a multi-screen playfield. In some cases the scrolling is "forced," as the player's unit is constantly moved forward to face new threats or targets. Other vertically scrolling shooters allow the unit to move up or down at will. As in all shooters, there is an emphasis on ranged combat. Gameplay is typically two-dimensional, though some vertical-scrolling shooters feature 3D graphics.
