UPDATE: God of War Collection Coming to Blu Ray

PS2 Classics In HD With Trophies On One Disc.

UPDATE: Destructoid reports the game will be out this November.

Remember that survey a little while back used to poll interest in a Blu Ray collected edition of the first two games in the God of War franchise? Turns out that it's happening. Oh, and the games are going to be remastered to look and sound better than they ever have before, and come with trophy support.

I consider myself a pretty big God of War fan, and I'm glad that this set isn't going to be part of some GoW III collector's edition. No, for that I'd rather have something like a replica Blade of Athena (can you hear me NECA?). It's been a long time since I've played either game, and one day I'd like to actually finish the second game. While Sony doesn't give an exact date, they do allude to the fact that the collection will be available before March, giving me plenty of time to replay both games, and the PSP Chains of Olympus, before the trilogy concludes. Hey, for $40, you could sure find worse things to spend your money on. Like Snuggies.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today a new and exclusive PlayStation®3 (PS3™) offering for the critically acclaimed God of War® franchise, God of War® Collection. Scheduled for release this holiday season, God of War Collection will feature reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War® II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games). God of War Collection offers substantial value to PS3 consumers, the compilation of both best-selling games costing just $39.99 MSRP.

Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, Santa Monica Studio, the God of War series brings epic mythological battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos, the triology’s main character, at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. God of War® III is scheduled for release exclusively on the PS3 in March 2010.

“We are excited today to announce God of War Collection,” said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. “Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected.”

Yeah, I never tried 1 or 2, and at $40, I can't pass it up.

I'm really psyched for this. I find it amazing that you guys have not finished both 1 & 2.

I also have never played any of the games and was thinking of grabbing them before the third came out. Damn, looks like I lucked out.

@shagino: the PS3 is the first Sony system I've ever owned. I was a Nintendo guy previously.

    Hahaha wowwww.

@shagino, they're all newbs. I've most definitely finished both games NUMEROUS times before. They don't know what they missed.

I will SO pick this up the day it comes out. The trophy support was the deal breaker for me. Not that I needed to be sold anymore really. But now I'm wondering if the trophies will be split in the middle for both games or will they have twice as many trophies since they're two games...

@TimO: Thanks. My faith in GV has been restored. Kidding. Is there a trophy limit that was instituted like MS 1000 point limit? If not, I'd like to think each game will have their own trophies. I'm a little surprised that they didn't throw in Chains of Olympus just because.

@Sean: Ah, understood. You are in for a treat then.

I played and beat the first, and got most of the way through the second but never finished it. After I nabbed the wings, for some reason, I just stopped playing. In other words, this is awesome, and I'll be there day one. Trophy support means little to me (until they manage it better and it's easier to know what the hell they mean), but it sweetens the deal.

@shagino: I think the most you can have in a game is 50 or 51, I forget.

@Coop: Well the only reason I say trophy support is because it usually pushes me to goals that I wouldn't / haven't done the first time around. Thus getting more for my money.

Beat the 2nd one twice, but never played the 1st. Since my PS3 isn't BC this is GREAT news!
