A demo for Darkest of Days has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace, allowing gamers a chance to try out the time-traveling shooter before picking it up in stores. In case you don't know, the concept for Darkest of Days has a character being pulled through time to protect individuals who are being targeted in World War I, World War II, and the Civil War. The hook, if you will, is the ability to use modern day and futuristic weaponry from time to time, which makes taking out some rebels in the Battle of Antietam much, much easier (and more entertaining).

I haven't played the console version, but have played through almost the entire campaign on the PC, and generally enjoyed myself. It's far from a perfect game, and gets by mostly on concept alone, but there's nothing broken about it at all. Then again, I've heard the console version suffers from some graphical hitches and errors that the PC iteration doesn't have to worry about, so there may be problems in the code after all. Give it a try, it's free, after all.
