When you think of the developer you likely link it mainly to World of Warcraft, which has enjoyed regular expansions released in a timely fashion. This isn't the Blizzard we know. It's a new one, and was hopefully a sign of a new trend for the developer. Apparently, this isn't the case. While talking to Techland,Blizzard’s executive vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, commented on the company's problem keeping up with their own release dates. His remarks are, well, downright hilarious.

“We always announce all of our games too early,” Pardo said, referring to when Diablo III was unveiled at Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational in 2008. “We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to do that.’ And then we always fail at that. But I’d rather fail at that than fail at making the game great. I think it’s safe to say that, yeah, (Diablo III) is not going to be out next year.”

That's right: Blizzard is actually saying that D3 isn't going to make a 2010 launch. This isn't as much shocking as it is, well, annoying. The industry is in a much different place than it was back when Blizz first started pulling this crap, and the community isn't as accepting of massive delays as it used to be. Sure, they might retort with "it isn't a delay if we didn't announce a release date," but that's hardly an excuse.

If a company announces a game and shows it at major gaming conventions as a playable build, yeah, it's suppose to come out soon. How soon? It doesn't have to be within months, but years shouldn't be too much to ask. With the four trillion dollars they make off World of Warcraft every month, it feels as though Blizzard could hire a few more coders to speed the progress, because I have a feeling it might get to the point where we're going to forget about Blizzard's RPG and move on to things more... tangible.
