Don King’s Prizefighter Looks Like Fight Night Light

And Don Makes Up Words

by Coop

The trailer above is the first for Don King’s Prizefighter, the only realistic boxing game confirmed to be in development at this time after EA Chicago was shut down. Aside from a rambling Don King pretending people still enjoy hearing him speak (see: 90’s), the gameplay footage is less then exciting to me. Graphically it isn’t any better than Fight Night, the premier boxing title for the generation. Animations and character models look about the same, and it doesn’t appear that characters faces will bend and burst like they do in Fight Night – a major selling point for me.

Not all looks grim, and there is one difference that does build up some interest in Prizefighter for me. It appears the game will focus on character customization and building up a professional boxer from the streets to, ugh, the “Don Kingdom.” If the developers plan to put the focus on this and move away from making the game a Fight Night clone, I could see the appeal. In Fight Night, custom characters were too easy to max out stat-wise, leading to either boring or unbalanced matches. With some new features I think that Prizefighter could be something different and worth playing. I hope the visuals we are seeing are going to be updated before launch, because as of now I do not see the “spectaculocity” that Don King talks about. I don’t see the “spectaculocity” at all.

The facial animations look worse than Fight Night but the footwork looks really really good.
