Young gamers might not remember this, but in the past, some games used to ship on multiple disks. I know, it's a blast from the past, like someone bringing up Kriss Kross. It's something that current generation systems wouldn't ever need to deal with, right? Wrong. Square Enix, apparently unable to deal with the inadequacies of the Xbox 360's insufficient hardware, has announced that they expect Final Fantasy XIII to ship on at least 3 DVDs. What's next, mandatory installations for console games?

"This isn't the final count yet, but we're aiming for about three discs," said Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase at GamesCom. Aiming for three means that, currently, it looks like four is more likely, and they're hoping to pull some voodoo to make it less. Anyone truly upset about this should really take a step back and realize exactly how much of an inconvenience it really is. In a game that's likely going to be over 60 hours, it means, once every 20 hours, changing one disk for another. No one cared when Final Fantasy VII did it, no one cared when Blue Dragon did it, and no one will care when XIII does it. Anyone complaining, well, they're simply grasping at straws and trying too hard to find complaints.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Is it a huge issue that I just don't get, or is this just another example of fanboys complaining for the sake of complaining?
