Gamestop to End Wii Fit Preorders

First-Shipment Availability Questioned

by Coop

With the launch of Nintendo’s newest wacky project, Wii Fit, coming in just a few weeks, rumors are starting to circulate about shortages of the title. Gamestop’s official website has currently stopped taking pre-orders entirely, stating that the game is "Not For Sale" and suggesting to "Please check back soon to see if more are available." Store locations are currently being told to continue taking reservations, but employees are being asked to warn consumers that they may receive their copy with the first shipment, and that a second batch of units will be arriving in the week following release.

Odds are this isn’t scaring anyone into a reservation who hasn’t yet, as rumors of shortages should be old hat to gamers, who have been told by Gamestop employees that Random-Game-X may be sold out when they come to buy it. However, it usually doesn’t go as far as to shut down pre-orders completely. Usually the threat is enough, and customers plop down their $5 fee (or $10 for a pre-order for Wii Fit and another $5 for We Ski) to go about their day with a clear conscience. So what do you think? Is this an actual shortage, or is Nintendo yanking at strings to push Wii Fit into the homes of easily frightened gamers? Either way Nintendo must be excited, because their two-button DDR pad seems to be getting more of a following than anticipated.

Mom - What's all this fuss about a silly looking bathroom scale.
    Kid - It's not a scale, Mom! It's a video game thing.
Mom - So it doesn't even weigh you?
Kid - Gawd!....no! That's not what it does.
Mom - Well then I don't get it. How do you know if you're getting fit?
Kid - UGH! Forget it! I'll get 10 dollars from Dad.....
