UK Tabloid website The Sun has recently posted an article taking aim at www.LittleLacysSurprisePageant.com, the pedophile trap website in Grand Theft Auto IV’s internet. The site doesn’t actually contain anything lewd, and players are actually punished for going to the website, but that isn’t enough to ease the anger of Jason Deschoolmeester, 23, of South Wales.

“I was looking on the internet for cheats and the name of this caught my eye as my daughter is called Lacey. This crosses the line. The makers have obviously sat around and discussed putting this in, and it’s not on. What will they do next? It’s disgusting. It could lead people to indulge in things like that. It is totally sick. I won’t play it again.”

Before I go into detail as to the logical fallacies in his statement, I’d like to just start with an hominem by saying that Jason Deschoolmeester is a douche. Now, onto the reasons why:

The website in Grand Theft Auto doesn’t feature anything worth complaining about and actually punishes people who go to it with a 5 Star Wanted Level and the screen above. The fact that he actually brings up that the reason he is upset about the website is because his daughter is named Lacey just means he took it personally, and he sounds like the kind of person who wouldn’t have been upset if it was www.LittleSusiesSurprisePageant.com.

Apparently he wasn’t upset at all with the games murder, violence, strip clubs, or anything like that, but a website set up by fictional police officers to prosecute fictional pedophiles somehow crosses the line for the curmudgeon Mr. Deschoolmeester. I don't blame The Sun for this idiocy, as they do mention that the game doesn't include any actual pedophelia. But the fact that they didn't tell Deschoolmeester to "go screw" does put them at fault, at least a little.
