Professor Layton Film to Puzzle Japanese Theatres
No, That's Not it...
by Coop
Level 5, developers of the wonderfully whimsical Professor Layton series, has announced that they will be releasing Professor Layton the First Movie in January 2010. Sadly, this only applies to the Japanese market as of now – L5 has yet to reveal information pertaining to a global release, but we can hold our hope. Maybe we'll need to solve some sort of puzzle on the DVD to unlock English dubs.
Cinematically, the production values in Professor Layton and the Curious Village were shockingly well done, with film-quality animated cut scenes during the game that helped breathe life into the already charming characters. If the film’s animation is as good as the game’s it’ll be better than half of the animation that comes out these days, and the series’ puzzle-filled anctics would work very well for a movie. I’d be estatic if Level 5 decided to follow their theatrical release with a television series, following weekly adventures of gaming’s first real gentlemen. Then again, I’d settle for the two Japanese exclusive Layton titles making it over to American shores. I want to crack open Pandora’s Box! Get to it, localization teams!

WANT!
Yeah, I want another Layton game, ASAP-style.
Japan gets all the cool stuff...
For a game that has a style that harks to Bob th Builder so strongly, I an surprised at how appealing it has always been to me.
The animated cut scenes in the original were pretty amazing, it was surprising to see the DS play something of that quality.
