Xbox LIVE Block Party Detailed and Dated

Toys! Metal! Dark! Rooms!

by Coop

At X10, Microsoft announced the Xbox Live Arcade Block Party. Just as is the case with the Summer of Arcade promotion, they'll be throwing a bunch of high-quality titles together, giving gamers a nonstop barrage of quality. Today, Major Nelson listed the games, gave the dates, and, for the first time, priced them all.

Here's the list:

March 3rd: Toy Soldiers -1200
March 10: Scrap Metal – 1200
March 17: Perfect Dark – 800
March 24: Game Room – Free to download. Individual games will cost 240 to 400

Usually there is a surprise hit that blows everyone away, which was Braid in 2008 and Trials HD in 2009, and one game that disappoints, Galaga Legions in 2008 and TMNT in 2009. Which will be which this year? The last disappointments were nostalgic games, pointing a finger at Perfect Dark being a letdown. As for the big, shocking success? It could be either Toy Soldiers or Scrap Metal, and I'm pulling for Toy Soldiers... mainly so someone makes more Army Men games. Come on, it might happen, right?

There are four great looking things here, though it might be worth waiting until the dust settles before picking any up. What are you going to do?

Honestly I'm not that excited about any of these, despite my love for Xbox Live Arcade games. Game Room is a neat idea, but I'm cheap as hell and can't see myself paying to play decades-old arcade games that I could probably pay for free somewhere on the internet. I'll likely end up playing Perfect Dark, and who knows, maybe it won't be a horrible letdown.
